ARC Laboratory Services provides Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity (UPV) testing for rock specimens to ASTM C597. This non-destructive test measures the speed at which a compressional wave travels through a rock specimen, providing an indicator of material integrity, homogeneity, and dynamic elastic properties. Ultrasonic velocity is used in rock mechanics to estimate dynamic elastic modulus and Poisson’s ratio, to detect internal fractures or voids, and to correlate with mechanical strength parameters. Results support geotechnical investigation, quarry source assessment, and rock characterisation for mining and civil engineering projects across Australia.
