Alkali-Silica Reaction (ASR) is one of the most damaging forms of chemical deterioration in concrete structures. It occurs when reactive silica in aggregate reacts with alkalis in cement paste, causing progressive expansion, cracking, and loss of structural integrity over time. Identifying potentially reactive aggregate before use in concrete construction is critical to the long-term durability of infrastructure. ARC Laboratory Services provides accredited Potential Alkali Reactivity testing to Australian Standards and Main Roads WA specifications from our NATA-accredited laboratory in South Guildford, Perth. Our ASR test suite includes the Mortar Bar method (AS 1141.60.1), the Concrete Prism method (AS 1141.60.2), and the MRWA Mortar Bar method (WA 624.1), giving concrete producers, structural engineers, and materials specifiers the data they need to make informed aggregate selection decisions.
