ARC Laboratory Services provides petrographic analysis of aggregate materials using specialist petrological microscopy. We conduct Secondary Mineral Content analysis to AS 1141.26, identifying and quantifying secondary minerals such as clay minerals, iron oxides, and weathering products that affect aggregate quality and performance. We also undertake qualitative petrological screening for potential alkali-silica reaction to AS 1141.65, assessing the mineralogical composition of aggregate to identify reactive silica phases before mortar bar testing. These services support aggregate source assessment, concrete mix design, and material approval for civil infrastructure projects across Western Australia.
