Rock Moisture Content Testing

ARC Laboratory Services provides rock moisture content testing to AS 4133.1.1.1. This test determines the ratio of water mass to dry solid mass in an intact rock specimen, expressed as a percentage. Moisture content is a fundamental index property in rock mechanics, influencing strength, stiffness, and durability. Many rock types exhibit significant reductions in compressive and tensile strength when saturated, making moisture content a critical input to geotechnical design, particularly for slope stability, foundation assessment, and underground excavation. Results are routinely reported alongside UCS, point load, and density testing as part of a complete rock index property suite for geotechnical and mining projects across Australia.
